چکیده

The view lines associated with a family of proole curves of the projection of a surface onto the retina of a moving camera deenes a multi-valued vector eld on the surface. The integral curves of this eld are called epipolar curves and together with a parametrization of the prooles provide a parametrization of regions of the surface. This parametrization has been used in the systematic reconstruction of surfaces from their prooles. We present a complete local investigation of the epipolar curves, including their behaviour in a neighbourhood of a point where the epipolar parametrization breaks down. We also study the epipolar constraint in the image, and the geometry of the view lines. These results give a systematic way of detecting the gaps left by reconstruction of a surface from prooles. They also suggest methods for lling in these gaps.

On the Epipolar Geometry of the Crossed-Slits Projection

The Crossed-Slits (X-Slits) camera is defined by two nonintersecting slits, which replace the pinhole in the common perspective camera. Each point in space is projected to the image plane by a ray which passes through the point and the two slits. The X-Slits projection model includes the pushbroom camera as a special case. In addition, it describes a certain class of panoramic images, which are...

Comparison of Computer Vision and Photogrammetric Approaches for Epipolar Resampling of Image Sequence

Epipolar resampling is the procedure of eliminating vertical disparity between stereo images. Due to its importance, many methods have been developed in the computer vision and photogrammetry field. However, we argue that epipolar resampling of image sequences, instead of a single pair, has not been studied thoroughly. In this paper, we compare epipolar resampling methods developed in both fiel...

Recovery of Circular Motion from Profiles of Surfaces

This paper addresses the problem of motion recovery from image profiles, in the important case of turntable sequences. No correspondences between points or lines are used. Symmetry properties of surfaces of revolution are exploited to obtain, in a robust and simple way, the image of the rotation axis of the sequence and the homography relating epipolar lines. These, together with geometric cons...

The Epipolar Parametrization

The epipolar parametrization arises naturally in the reconstruction of surfaces from prooles with known camera motion. This is a special case of a local paramet-ric representation which is a mesh. Local parametric representations can be combined into a global one by computing the transformation in parameter space on the overlap of the patches. This paper also discusses the applicability of this...

Affine Reconstruction of Curved Surfaces from Uncalibrated Views of Apparent Contours

in this paper, we consider uncaiibrated reconstruction of curved surfaces from apparent contours. Since apparent contours are not fixed features (viewpoint independent), we cannot directly apply the recent resuits of the uncaiibrated reconstruction from fixed features. We show that, nonetheless, curved surfaces can be reconstructed up to an affine ambiguity from their apparent contours viewed f...
